Assistant/Associate Professor of Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA)
Position Summary
Tenure-track faculty position who will have full-time teaching responsibilities in the entry-level Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program. Applicant must hold current CRNA certification with an unrestricted license. Full-time teaching in simulation and/or didactic classes will be expected. Other expectations of faculty include personal scholarship, oversight of student doctoral work projects, university/community service, site visits, and other responsibilities normally attributed to university faculty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and teach nurse anesthesia courses as assigned.
- Advise students during the program as needed
- Chair and mentor student doctoral work projects
- Conduct clinical site visits as assigned
- Participate in interviews, orientation and other student processes
- Participate in program, university, and community related committees/projects.
- Attend anesthesia related conferences such as AANA Congress and Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators.
- Maintain CRNA certification and continue personal anesthesia practice or other scholarly work.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Director
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- A PhD, DNAP, DNP or appropriate doctoral degree.
Experience
- Education/teaching experience (didactic or clinical) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a CRNA preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with university constituents.
- Thorough understanding of anesthesia principles.
- Thorough understanding of scope of practice for CRNAs.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to function as competent CRNA.
- Ability to professionally represent and promote the profession and Texas Wesleyan.
- Ability to be dedicated to the program/students success.
- Demonstrated interest in life-long learning.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, managers, clinicians, University employees, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems when directing self, staff, or students.
- Demonstrated evidence of ability and interest in nurse anesthesia education.
- Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
- Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations, and policies in regard to student records.
- Ability to adhere to University and departmental procedures.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret academic periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students and peers.
- Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
